Matterhorn Skiing, Snow Paradise on Earth

The village of Zermatt is probably one of the most popular tourist destinations in the whole of Switzerland. It is a charming village located at the base of the Matterhorn, the last mountain in the Swiss Alps that has been conquered. It is a popular ski resort and a favorite honeymoon spot for newlyweds.

Zermatt has the longest winter skiing season in all of Europe that usually starts in November and ends in May, but you can still ski and snowboard even in the summer months, thanks to Zermatt’s high altitude. Other popular Zermatt ski destinations are Sunnega, Gornergrat and Schwarzsee. With just a few steep slopes, Sunnega is a popular training ground for new skiers and snow boarders.

The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is also Europe’s highest location with an altitude of 3883 meters above sea level. You can reach it via the cable way. It also has a sight seeing platform where you can view nearby villages and mountains. You can also find here the Glacier Palace, a structure built from ice, where you could have some wine tasting as well as look at beautiful ice sculpture.

Aside from skiing, Zermatt has other sports facilities such as tennis courts and golf courses. Zermatt also host international competitions for these sports such as the Raiffeisen Open Zermatt which is an International tennis tournament held every June while the Matterhorn Eagle Cup is an annual international golf competition held every August.
